Types of Laser Eye Surgery

There are many different types of laser eye surgery, differing in how they correct your vision. At our practice, we offer consultations for LASIK and PRK.

LASIK

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a common and popular laser eye surgery. Your surgeon cuts a small flap in your corneal tissue, bending it backward to access the cornea.
A surgical laser helps your doctor reshape your cornea to improve your vision. After completion, the created flap returns to its original position and heals with time.

PRK

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) does not involve cutting a flap, like in LASIK. Instead, this surgery involves the removal of the entire outer layer of the cornea—allowing your surgeon to reshape the cornea. After completing the surgery, you receive a contact lens bandage to protect your eye as it heals.
